I think that for the animated series, they wanted to have a "young" enemy that's probably why they use Hobgoblin as Jason even if the real Hob was Kingsley... But can we say there was a real hobgoblin?....

Check out Amazing Spider man #289. 1st Hobgoblin revealed as Ned Leeds. There have been more Hobgoblin's, and Years after Spidey #289 came out, the writers found the real identity of Hobgoblin, but for years the Hobgoblin WAS Ned Leeds.

ned was not the first hobgoblin in the comics nor the real one. Ned gets killed and then jack o lantern takes over for a while and then he gets replaced and blabla bla. If you want the full list and the name of the "real" check wikipedia.

@Zuwze Maybe he was disguising himself as a black guy to throw off the scent. And in the comics, Ned Leeds was the Hobgoblin. And he was white. In the comics.

Funny thing is, Roderick Kingsley in the Spectacular Spider-man cartoon series is african american. If that show doesn't get cancelled, there will be a "black" Hobgoblin in season 3.

Yes it is, he also did the voice of The Joker in Batman the Animated series. The Hobgoblin is my favoriote character
